Design Wall Monday

Not much has changed on the design wall, but I've been working on the Sweet Sixteen, and have the length I want now. I've spent more time working on preemie gowns than quilting, and sad to say, but all those are in the trash. If it wasn't poor pattern design, it was my sewing machine jamming up on the embroidery stitching. But I think I have it figured out now.

You can also see part of my cutting table, also a WIP, on the right.

  1. Nice Irish Chain quilt in progress on your design wall. I also really like the effect the alternate blocks give to the 16 patches of the quilt below it. Nice work!

  3. Your Sweet Sixteen really caught my eye. Great use for some scraps. Is there a pattern somewhere for that?

    1. Thank you. It caught my eye too when I saw it on Confessions of a Fabric Addict: http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/search/label/Sweet%20Sixteen

I've found it online under the names Sixteens and Pinwheels and 16 Patch and Pinwheels.

On that link, she tells you how she made the 16 patch blocks. I made the pinwheels by placing an 8-1/2 inch white square on top of the same size blue square, and sewing 1/4 inch around the square. Then cut an X through the corners and it made 4 half square triangles. You can use 8 inch squares too I think, but I like having the extra so I can square up the half square triangles and then square up the finished pinwheel block.
