Design Wall Monday, It's a Race to the Deadline Now

Besides the RSC blocks, I have been quilting the Double Irish Chain. It is my February UFO and the quilting is killing my shoulder. I tried to divide the remaining quilting by the number of days left in the month, less a day for binding, and I have to quilt the equivalent of four blocks a day. I have scaled back the amount of quilting I was doing on each block and my shoulder still aches for hours after doing four blocks. I'm not sure it's worth it, but I'd like to make my goal. After this quilt, it's QAYG or send out for quilting. I don't know if it's possible to tear a rotator cuff by quilting, but it feels like it. I prescribe rest in the month of March.

I am using the Double Irish Chain to practice with the ruler foot. I am still having tension problems but it's beginning to look a little better on the back. Now if I can get the stitch length on the front to be uniform, I'll be happy. Painfully happy.

(Ran out of bobbin thread on this block)

Now something I'd like to ask all of you, especially those of you who use Google Blogger for your blog host. Something has happened in the last month or two (maybe longer). Now, people who use Google+ show 'no reply' in their emails. And if they also don't have their blog linked to their profile, it's impossible to respond to their comments, either by email reply or by return comment on their blog. There was someone who commented on my blog for awhile whose ID was only "T" with 'no reply' in the email and no blog on their profile. There are others like that too, but the "T" stuck in my memory. I feel really bad that people go to the trouble to leave a comment and there is no way to return it. Some blogger themes don't have a reply button under each comment, but I just saw on another blog that there are themes that do have a reply button. I'm about to try out one of these themes. How do you deal with 'no reply' emails?

Well. You know how you are supposed to back up your template before making changes? I didn't do that. I don't remember what my width was so if my blog doesn't look right on your computer, like pictures or words overlapping something they shouldn't, please let me know. I also changed the background for a cleaner look. And after all that, the reply button isn't part of a theme at all. It's in the settings!

Also, there are some blogs that only allow comments by Google+ members. I signed up for Google+ when it first became available, but it seriously messed up my email login unless I used gmail, and my blogger sign in isn't gmail. In fact, I didn't really like gmail. I couldn't log out of it easily to check my other email. So I ditched Google+ and gmail. But that means I can't comment on those blogs. For those of you who have Google+, is it an option to only allow Google+ members to comment on your blog, or has Google taken that choice from you?

  1. I love your work. You are most talented.

I got tired of all the issues with Blogger. It's okay, but WordPress is awesome. I'm so glad I moved. I'll never go back to blogger.

Have a fabulous day, Marti. ♥

    1. I had a wordpress blog for a couple of months. I switched because some Wordpress bloggers weren't able to comment on Blogger for awhile. But I really didn't like using Wordpress as well as Blogger. But there are some Wordpress blogs I still can't comment on, and of course the Google+ blogs.

  3. It's disappointing to have something you'd really like to comment on and then be frozen out. I feel like the person who has posted deserves a reply or comment. It is frustrating for sure.

    1. Oh, and I really like your Irish Chain quilting design. I recently broke down and bought some Liberty of London fabrics so I can make a simple but stunning Double Irish Chain quilt.

  4. Your quilt is very nice. I hope your shoulders will not get too bad.
I'm not very good at English, so I'm not sure if I understand correctly about Google + and comments. I have google + and gmail, but gmail is not my main email address, and google + is not my head place to share what i'm creating. Everyone can comment on my blog, but on google + I decide who can comment, and I've configured the ones I have in my circles. I can change that if I want to. I have not opened the comment for everyone because I'm afraid of inappropriate comments and for spam. I hope that those who are interested in quilting and sewing visit my blog and comment on it. Hope I've answered right to what you were wondering. Thank you for visiting my blog and thank you for your nice comment! :-D

    1. Thank you! Yes, you did answer my question. Since clicking on your name goes to your Google+ profile and I commented on your blog, it must be in the settings. Maybe a default setting.

  5. Hi Marti: I love your quilt, it is amazing, such lovely colors together.
I hope you have had the doctor check out your shoulder, if you do have rotator cuff damage leaving it go for a long period can do damage that cannot be repaired, Mike had rotator cuff surgery recovery was about four weeks for him, however my friend did not have hers checked and even surgery will not repair it.
I do not do Google Plus, only because I am afraid of the problems you mentioned, some people who start out with Google Plus do not have problems but if you change over it seems like nothing but problems.

    Blessings
    Catherine

  6. Oh, I just hate it when I run out of bobbin thread. I've usually sewn miles before I realize.

  7. You've made a lot of progress on the quilting. Hopefully by cutting back the time you are quilting it will help with the shoulder pain. I've not figured out google plus, sometimes I can comment and sometimes I can't. It must be the settings. Like you I had problems when I moved to google plus, so I back to just blogger.

  8. Your work is amazing. I know people that type a lot get carpal tunnel so I can see that you would have problems with your shoulder. Good idea to rest.

    1. Thank you, you are kind. I have had carpal tunnel before and it is the same kind of pain.

  9. I discovered QAYG none too soon and now that is how I do all my quilts. So much easier to quilt than wrestling with all that bulk. Look after that shoulder. I know what you mean about Google+. I cannot comment on those blogs either.....pity as I do not want to appear rude to some of my readers/posters.

  10. Love this quilt!! I want to try the quilting with rulers but haven't purchased the foot for my machine or any rulers. Still deciding what machine to do it on, the Janome or the Juki?????
I would have to say that I just don't get a lot of the blogger issues. I also get comments that I cannot reply to personally so just do it within the blog post itself.

Your comments make my day and I look forward to visiting your blog too! If you are a no-reply blogger and don't have your blog on your profile, could you write it in your comment so I can visit you? Thanks! Due to a recent spamming problem, comments with advertising links and unidentified anonymous comments will be deleted.
